Hi guys,
I bought a lovely ISA brown yesterday, and long story short, she is very healthy but her bottom beak is a little longer than the top, it' seems to be in line but it's strange. Could it be cross beak?

One method used when chickens are crowded to keep them from eating each other is to clip the top beak, usually when they are a chick just hatched. That takes away the cutting power of the peck. It’s a lot like clipping your fingernails, it doesn’t hurt the chick but it is something I don’t do. It’s one reason I always advocate giving your chickens enough room so you don’t have to do something like this. I cringe whenever I see a post on here asking how many chickens can I shoehorn into this tiny space.

Clipping the top beak can make it a little harder for them to eat. Many do OK but they might have trouble picking up some things. Commercial operations that do this normally feed them a damp mash to help them eat. Watch her a bit but as long as she is eating normally she should be OK with whatever you are feeding her. She may have problems catching creepy crawlies or picking off small pieces of vegetation to eat. A chicken like that can lead a full happy life and do very well but it is a bit of a handicap.
