Last month I got my order of 30 chicks. We were able to identify all the breeds we had ordered (Delawares, Wyandottes, Buff Orps, Speckled Sussex, NHR, Barred Rock) except one- we thought we'd ordered two Cuckoo Marans, but the only dark chicks were the two Barred Rocks. Now they are growing out, and it's getting easier to tell them all apart, but there are two birds that don't quite match up. This is one:

Any ideas? It's a beautiful bird, rich mahogany brown wings/back and a striking blue-black chest and sides.

I'm thinking partrage rock??? I had one ID'd on here as such, and he's gotten darker with age. Beautiful boy, I'm thinking about keeping him.

Marans do not have yellow legs.

HE is not a Marans, don't know what he is but he is pretty. Bet he turns out beautiful when he grows up.

I figured it was a cockerel... going to be some difficult decisions here in another month or two.

So, definitely not a Maran. Anybody else have an opinion as to what breed it might be?

I is probably a Partridge Rock, but could be a Welsummmer. Cockerel either way. Should be a handsome fellow if you're allowed to keep him.
