Not laying at 7 months !!!

We have 4 Rhode Island Red hens that are now 7 months old. They free range. Unfortunately, they are still not laying consistently in the nesting boxes. We get one egg every week normally. One day while gardening, 2 weeks ago, we found a nest they made with 14 eggs in it !!! However, for about a week we were receiving 3 eggs a day from the meeting boxes. How do we get them to lay in the nesting boxes consistently !?

Consider locking them in the coop for a couple of weeks; once they start using the nest boxes in the coop they may not lay elsewhere for a while. Any time hens free range there is the possibility they will start a hidden nest.

We tried that and it didn't work. They just didn't lay for the 2 weeks.
