I have 4 chickens, one of them a rooster. They are about 1 1/2 years old . They have quit laying eggs for about 3 to 4 weeks. They are molting now, but don't know how long that lasts. I know they don't lay during molting. Anybody know what might be happening? We are new to chickens. This is our first year. We've been getting 3 to 4 eggs a day. But nothing for several weeks.
Thanks for your help...

Our hens went through a hard fall molt at about 18 months old...it was hard. BUT we also had a hard winter so I was thankful they had a nice blanket of feathers. They'll start laying again when their feathers return.

You've answered your own question....
....they are molting and so won't lay until they are done and back in condition.
Could take anywhere from a few weeks to a few or more months...if you're not using supplemental lighting they won't even 'think' about start to lay again until the days get longer after winter Solstice. Good to feed them a higher protein/low calcium ration while they are growing new feathers...also good to add some animal protein too, like scrambled eggs, mealworms, or canned mackerel.
