Not laying - what type of food?

Can confirm. I've been smacked down a decent number of times here for bad information and I've become a more knowledgeable person because of it. This is a great place to learn, but we must open ourselves up to the possibility of being wrong before we can learn from our mistakes.

To the point of grass and veggies - if chickens could thrive (or even survive) on grass clippings, why would any of us buy feed when we could just get a bagger for the lawn mower and toss that in with the chickens?

My hens are 4 years old. I don’t think they will lay anymore as they haven’t since last fall.

Your hens are not too old to lay. My hens are 6 years old and are still laying and I expect them to lay for a few more years. There might be something else going on with your hens.

More seriously, we haven't baked a chicken in a while, i'm taking young birds from the hatch whose date i need to look up.
