I have 2 red sex links 3 black australorps and 1 EE. I know my EE, both reds and 1 black are laying but I cant tell which ones are the blacks and which are the reds eggs. Is there some reasons why I don't have much variation? I attached a pic bellow.
Well, the Black australorp and Red sex links are both brown egg layers, so they should be laying about the same color and it will be hard to tell them apart. You might get better at it after they've been laying a while and you will have seen which hen lays what, but they will always be similar. As for the EE, looks like the bottom left egg is hers, and maybe the one to the right of it since they are the most different, but even EE's can lay brown eggs if they are mixed with too many other brown egg laying breeds. Sorry you didn't get the variation you're looking for, but I still think you've got a pretty half dozen there!
They're VERY pretty!! I have Wyandottes, a Barred Rock, a Buff Orp, an Australorp, and 2 EEs. I'm expecting most of the eggs to be brown, maybe some a little lighter or darker, and blue/green from the EEs. I may expand my flock later with some other breeds, like Marans, to add some variety to the egg basket.
