(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens? I got my first chickens about 2-3 years ago. I've actually lost track because time goes so fast. I got them at Tractor Supply with their coop I put up by myself (I was so proud). My first ones were Golden Comets and 2 white leghorns. I ended up with only 1 leghorn because one got sick and died. I named her Lucy and she LOVED to roost in the crabapple tree outside my back door.

(2) How many chickens do you have right now? Right now I have 2 roosters(selling one to cut down on the chasing and squawking), and 5 hens.

(3) What breeds do you have? Bielefelder mixes, an original Golden Comet and lavender orpingtons.

(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens? Watching them run to me when I go outside or even look out the window. I spoil them something awful. Started raising my own mealworms to feed them and actually buy lettuce, cabbage, watermelon, and grapes just for them. I'm learning all kinds of treats to give them on here.

(5) What are some of your other hobbies? planting things....I LOVE to plant things-flowers, veggies, bushes, trees. Getting started on some concrete hobbies soon.

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share. I'm a Registered Nurse working in a maximum-security prison on the night shift. I am divorced, 3 grown children, and just found out I'm gonna be a grandma! 2 dogs, a chihuahua (Belle), and a golden retriever mix (EmiLou). 2 cats-Tabitha and Shadow.

(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community? :D When I got chickens I needed LOTS of questions answered, tips, etc any new chikkie owner would have. Of course, I found BYC and the rest is history. I have, up to this point, just been a "lurker" reading different posts. I had a problem I really didn't know how to handle so I asked the community. Since I asked, it seems like the right thing to do to join. lol

Congratulations on starting to post! It's so much fun to join the conversations.

It sounds like you have a lovely, colorful flock, and I admire you for spoiling them. I buy grapes for mine (and planted two grape vines for future treats), but stopped well short of raising mealworms. I salute your devotion -- even dried mealworms gross me out (weird considering all the other gross stuff that could).

Congratulations also on your upcoming status as grandma, and good luck with the concrete hobbies! It's nice to meet you!
