Not sure if I got what I paid for.. sex nor breed

If i had to guess, they were 2 to 3 weeks old when i bought them, one week ago. Somewhere around there. Paid for what i thought were 5 barred rock ladies..

Where did they come from?

No one's screaming rooster, but it's early days yet. Keep an eye on bird 3, that's a good amount of color to the comb for the age.

The first three birds look to have what's called a rose comb. The purebred barred bird with a rose comb is a Dominique, so that could be what they are. then again, rose combs are dominant, so they could also be mixed breed birds with one barred parent and one rose combed parent.

The last two birds have straight combs and are likely hatchery grade barred Rock pullets.

Again, it's early to sex with accuracy, so maybe post pics again around 6 weeks of age to confirm.

Thanks! I bought them from a poultry auction here in georgia. When I bought them, the combs weren't really noticeable (then again I'm new to chickens), then I noticed the comb difference after a few days. The guy guaranteed 5 hens, but if he couldn't even get the breed right then I'm not sure I trust him on the sex either. I'd be happy with 3-4 out of 5 being pullets though..

It they are already getting cones an you can see some pink coming in they are roos...pullers take longer to get there cone

Are their legs dark? If so they are pullets.

If they came from an auction, they may well be black sex link cockerels, you'll just have to wait and see.

Not true if they're not pure bred males. Males with one barred parent will have all the characteristics of a pullet, coloring-wise.

Oke i don't mean to hijack your thread. Quick question. DONRAE do you know anything bout orpingtons. I bought an older chick from a breeder who said it was an orpington but I swear it looks just like my barred rocks. I'm asking are there a breed of orpington that look like that?
