Hi Everyone,

So I went down to the henhouse today and my silkies have successfully hatched a baby chick! We have never hatched chicks before & I'm not sure what I should do from here. Do I take it out and put it under a heat lamp or leave it with its mother? She is still sitting on a number of eggs and the weather is quite cold at the moment. Would really appreciate any advice!

I am new to all of this also, but when my friends hens hatched chicks He left them with mama and she took care of them on her own... Even tucked the chicks up under her wings to keep them warm

You might want to make sure there is a chick sized waterer and feeder down on the floor. Also, it is a good idea to get layer feed up, and change the feed to all flock or chick starter, so that baby chick won'get too much calcium. You can put some egg shells or oystershell out for the other hens.
