Huh, I never caught that. I had been using sulmet and albon interchangeably, I didn't catch the little "di" in the albon. Actually, I have switched to toltrazuril, it works really well and I only need to dose for two days plus it takes care of all of the weirdo things like tricho and crypto and cyclo.


But I digress. Then I change my opinion and say, if the sulmet doesn't work, try some albon. Your vet should have it, we use it for kittens and puppies with coccidiosis. I still disagree with using amprolium for TREATMENT. I believe it should be used for chicks to help them build up resistance and then after that if they come down with a case of coccidia, use a coccidiocide. But that's just my opinion.

Honestly, I swear that my poultry vet says that the strains that sulmet treats are the two of most concern to chickens.

Well, I have both Corid and Sulmet on my shelf, and I've been lucky enough not to have had to use either. The two strains that Sulmet gets are the worst ones, but with my luck I would have one of the other 7, LOL. I do like the fact that Sulmet and sulfadimethoxine will treat coryza, fowl cholera, and salmonella which is important when someone is not sure what they are treating. And it is good of you to point out the use of trimethoprim with Sulmet in the SMZ-TMP drug. I'm learning something new. It helps to know what people have actually had success with.

SMZ/TMP (sulfamethoxazole/trimethoprim - 800 mg/160 mg) is commonly used in horses, so I have tons of it, lol, powder and pills.

Actually, I ended up with cryptosporidium this year and had to get baycox.
I red a study that simply feeding in a probiotic which contains b.Subtilis is more effective than treating with a coccidiocide or a coccidiostat. I tried it, I used something that I use for my horses called G.U.T. It contains probiotics which include b. Subtilis as well as aloe extract, an antacid and L-glutamine which is essential for the repair of mucous membranes and I will tell you that it did the job that sulmet and amprolium couldn't do together. B. freakin' subtilis.
