Not sure where to post this... inbreeding question

One thing I have always wondered about breeders, especially poultry and rabbits where you are trying to breed the best with the best does inbreeding occur? A top notch roo and a couple generations of chicks later how do you keep track or do you keep track?

Kinda icky to discuss but when you are just raising food or fuzzy pets does it really matter?

From the standpoint of not concentrating "bad" genes, it's better to line breed: sons back to mother, daughters back to father rather than breeding siblings to each other.

However, for a few generations it is usually okay. Many breeders bring in a new rooster every couple of years to add genetic diversity.

The thing is to find a great rooster and breed him back to his best daughters. A lot of the great breeders will take one version (color, leg-type, feathering and breed it will another will other qualities to try and get the best of both birds. The really good ones, I'm NOT in that category, has files and everything on their birds to determine which two birds did best and which did not. Real time consuming, but they usually are in the winner's circles.
