Not sure???

I am new at this and I had read somewhere that the hens appreciate a rooster for protection- they are not free range, but we live in the country and you never know what could come around the coop.(coyotes, skunks, weasels...) so that maybe was not true what I read?

A rooster can sure help alert the hens to predators/danger, and some will sacrifice themselves to save the hens....don't count on that, though, some roosters are great big wimps who will run and hide faster than the hens do....and they can help keep peace in the flock, keeping the top hen from being too aggressive to beta birds. But having a rooster won't really make them more productive, if it did the commercial egg farms would be keeping roosters.

True. Thanks! I think I'll keep one rooster then- but now to pick the good one!
