Chirping
Hi Chicken lovers!
I was doing health checks today and noticed my 3 year old Orpington has missing feathers on either side of her neck, her skin is really crinkly/wrinkly with a few red spots, which I haven't seen before when she has molted in the past. There are flecks of (possibly) dry skin coming off into my gloves, nothing is wiggling or no bugs visible from what I can tell.
She is a very calm, very quiet bird so it would be hard to tell if she is withdrawn, she seems to be her normal self. She is eating and drinking. She started molting in October, and hasn't laid an egg since (which I know is normal especially since it's winter). All other birds seem fine and are laying as usual. There has been dramatic fluctuations in weather here lately, -12c up to +3c. They are also spending their time in a covered/sheltered run with deep litter in their coop. They had mites in early September which were treated and cleared up and haven't returned.
Is she still molting from October? Is it the weather making her skin dry? Is she being bullied? Something else? I am in rural Canada and do not have access to as many treatments and or products as the US.
