I bought 3 acres in Crystal River and want to start raising chicks. I been looking around different websites for the ordinances for that area. Have not found anything helpful yet. How many chicks can I have? Where to find building codes? What do i need to keep my chicks safe from preditors? I am in my retirement phase, sort of. I have been woking thru this COVID epidemic as a nurse and I have given my years to the industry. I grew up on a farma s a child. I do alot of sewing and embroidery, Essential Oils, Herbs and gardening. Three acres is not much but enough to maintain and keep me busy at my age. I would appricite any info or advise anyone can offer here.

Hello and welcome to BYC! :frow

You might call the Townhall, they should know everything concerning laws on poultry keeping.

Stop by our Learning Center for all kinds of great articles on all the aspects of keeping chickens.... https://www.backyardchickens.com/articles/

Build a bigger coop than you think you will need. Chickens need 5 sq feet per bird in the coop, 10 sq feet in the run. Build like it's Fort Knox. Night time marauders have a lot of time on their hands and chickens are always a meal. If you free range, electric fencing helps greatly.

Make yourself at home here and ask as many questions as needed. Welcome aboard!
