nothing left but legs and the heart and feathers

I don't get why people don't do their best to protect the livestock and/or pets that they take on and then come on here crying about how sad, heart-broken, angry, and upset they are when they do lose one or several to preditors when they knew what the risk and penalty was.

To me, it's like letting the dog or toddler play and run in the street and then be upset when one gets hit by a car.

My run is open-top too, and since the 'hawk' incident my cheekens stay locked up in pens and henhouses with fans all day until about 5:00, then I let them out for a couple of hours. Will soon be so dark they won't be able to get daylight hours to sun in, so will work on getting the whole run covered over the next few weeks. However, covered or not, they will be locked inside the henhouses all night. I have taken to counting every one of them to make sure I lock them all in, and it's a pain, but preferable to losing them AND my delicious eggs. Anybody want an EE rooster that is within 100 miles of W. Monroe, LA? I got one for you.
