My chicks are only a week old, and I already want more!! We are at our limit as far as the size of our coop goes... but with an extension... a few more wouldn't hurt, right?

My whole family just adores our new chicks.

And how can you survive with only two breeds to appreciate? Add a few different types of chicken for variety and a colorful flock!

Even if you cannot extend your coop, you could always build a new one; I just completed my third, biggest, and best.

I figure it will be at least four more months before I try to appropriate more of my back yard and build something else to hold more chickens......

Haha! Thanks! We are going to at least wait to see if one of our Plymouth rocks is a girl or boy... we aren't allowed to keep males in our area. So the current plan is that if Stella turns out to be a Steve- then we'll get three more and add an extension to our coop.

We'll see! Maybe we'll need a couple more either way!

I've already decided on three more breeds I would like!
Easter Eggers, Sliver Wyandottes, and Faverolles!
I hope our neighbors won't mind. I figure we can just bribe them with eggs.

I think I better stay away from this site! When I decided to get some chickens for eggs, I figured I just needed 2or 3. :(Now I'm half way done with my 8'x8' coop and wondering if 6 is enough, wondering how many would be comfy in the big coop.

Walk quietly away from this site and don't return..

"Just a few" turned into 17 hens plus periodic batches of 25-50 meaties. 17 hens, did I just type that? Yep, it's true!

its that chicken fever thing that worries me... my house came with two free rangers that we cooped up last saturday. on monday i was at the feed store for oyster shell and came home with 2 bar rocks and 3 straight run bantums... i think 2 are cochins, but no clue on the third. then just today i went back up to the feed store for more pine shavings for the brooder, and came home with the makings of a second brooder, 2 golden comets, and 2 production reds. i think ill need a second job soon, and a degree in engineering and carpentry cause got know i aint spending no 2 grand on a prebuilt coop.

I started out this month with 6 chicks. Last week I went back with DH for supplies and convinced him that we needed 6 more...that our first little brooder would hold these little gals until the bigger gals go to the coop. Then we would transfer these to the bigger brooder until it was their turn to enter the coop. I had the little girl at the feed store helping my cause.

I now have 12. It's an addiction, like heroin only it poops.
