Aside from our little group of Orps, our flock is just 27 weeks old. The younger ones started laying eggs for about two weeks now. However, in the Cochin coop, we have three hens and a roo. We got one egg from that coop about a week ago and nothing since. Is this normal for this breed? While we don't expect all three of them to start laying at the same time, is it normal for a new layer to lay an egg and then stop producing? We haven't noticed any evidence that they are having shell-less eggs or that they are eating them (unless they are very tidy about it). How long should we go before we start to get worried about getting an egg and then not having any? Our other hens that started laying (Delaware and Ameracauna) are continuing to do so on a normal basis (every day or every other day).

Many thanks!

It gets said on here often that they do odd things when they start laying. Give them a month or two to get used to the process, get their machinery going smoothly. Nothing you can do about it anyway.
