Hello to all...I am retired and live with my beautiful wife on 2 acres way out in the country. She still has her business and I plan to just garden and raise chickens for egg laying. Eat a few and sell a few! Hope to buy 40 layers, possibly later this year. Any suggestions as to breeds, best feed, and size of coop will be greatly appreciated.

Hello from Southwest Ohio....I have bantam cochins for pets and eggs. Working on a new coop for Welsummers. They lay gorgeous dark dark brown eggs. Good luck deciding. They are all so beautiful !!!

Guess I forgot to say I am from SW Pennsylvania. I can actually spit on WV state line. I am leaning to mixing it up with Buffs, RIR, Silver Wyandottes, and others. Am I making a mistake in my thinking?

You may mix breeds if you want. That is no problem. The breeds you have chose are fine.
