The first 10 years of my life, I lived on a small farm with 70+ chickens, 80+ ducks, a couple pigs, a dog and a few cats. When I turned 10 my family moved from the East coast to the West coast and I have lived in town ever since.
My husband and I recently bought a 5 acre property and moved to the country. The next logical step was to get chicks. I purchased 14 chicks, 8 at Tractor Supply and 6 at a local feed store. I'm convinced we will have at least 2 roosters, possibly 4. I have enjoyed interacting with the chicks, attempting to befriend them. Some are more reserved than others. The roos seem the most personality forward of the group. I am reliving my childhood and love it! Birds are facinating and now I have my very own flock. Our plan is to use them for eggs, eventually allowing free range foraging once they are familiar with tucking into the hen house at night. We also plan to let them reproduce. I have a lot to learn but I'm excited as we move forward on this new adventure in farming. Its a nice
break from the city rat race we have been living for the last 25 years of our marriage. Country life is a breath of fresh air.
