so my girls have been out in there coop for one week now when I moved them out I also moved out there i call it nursery cage as this is what they have lived in from the time they came home

my ? is this they are trying to sleep on top of the cage (i dont have nothing on top of it now its way to hot out side i live in las vegas nevada already triple digits \)

I have to worries

1. sleeping on top of the cage wont that hurt there feet. I keep moving them into the cage at night for this reason.

2. where there cage is now is where there nesting boxes will be put when they start to lay by letting them sleep on top of cage when the nexting box comes will they think ok to sleep on top of those.

I do plan on removing the cage as soon and they start purching so there will be a time where nothing will be there.

or am i over thinking everything

the girls are around 5 weeks old

you can kind of see the coop in the back ground its 8 foot long 4 feet wide 5 feet high windo on far end and open double door and then of course there door open when there allowed out run will be done tommrow. you can kind of see where the nursery cage is right in side the door.

so should I take the cage out or contue to go out every night and put them inside the nursery cage

Why not put a board on top of the cage for them to use? Put them in the cage to sleep is the opposite of what you will want them to do when they get old enough to roost at night. Put the cage under the roost area so as they start to seek a higher place to sleep they go up to the roosts

They will move up to the perches to roost when they are ready. My chicks are six weeks now and are mixing up where they sleep one night on the floor the next on the roost.

I think when to pull it out is up to how they act and how you want them to behave. By this time they should be comfortable enough in the coop with out it, But it would make a good place for an intermediate perch, till they start using the permanent perches. It looks like the coop is new so if you have any pieces of 2x4s left you can put it on top of the cage for them to roost on. Might want to put something under it to keep the cage cleaner.

I TOOK THE TOP OFF NOW HEY JUST HAVE THE SHAVINGS PART TO CUDDLE TO STAY WARM AND THIS WAY WILL ENCOUGE THEM TO MOVE UP TOP TO POURCH THEY ALL DO IT DURING THE DAY TIME JUST NOT AT NIGHT. I HOPE THEY WILL BE OK.

They'll be OK. Sometimes it takes a while for them to go from sleeping in a nest on the floor to saying, hey I like to sleep on roosts. Mine had a practice perch in with them from the first week
