Hello!!
I am new to BYC and owning chickens. We moved here to Texas almost 4 years ago from Las Vegas, NV (therefore the NVME in Texas screen name). I have always lived in the city until about 4 weeks ago when we signed a lease to buy for 3.5 acres out in the country!
I'm excited and nervous. Having property large enough to support a few animals has always been a dream for my husband who grew up around horses and stuff in his home state of Washington. My experience with animals has always been just dogs, cats, birds and fish. Last year we got our son a Bearded dragon and I don't know why in the world I would knowingly bring in live crickets to feed a pet! Times and attitudes have changed in that regards and I told my husband we ( I ) would need to work our way up to the larger animals before I would feel comfortable, I made it all the way down to honeybees in terms of size before I could feel comfortable to reconsider chickens and now after tons of online research I am SO VERY EXCITED to get my chicks going!
We inherited the beginnings of a chicken coop that was already on the property and I started some seeds indoors for an herb garden to help keep my chickens occupied and healthy. I cant wait until they arrive (Feb 5!) and they are chirping away in my brooder!
Happy to be here!
