Hey all, we are having trouble with our girl and at this point we're lost.

Our 1 year old barred rock was acting strange the other day. She appeared egg bound.

We isolated her, have her an Epsom salt bath several times, etc. She laid an egg after about 3 days. We kept her isolated for another night before attempting to slowly reintroduce her to the flock.

She immediately starting puffing up and acting aggressive, and the others mimiced this behavior.

We separated her again for another day and began the reintroduction all over. They could see each other but not touch. Merry would puff up and and panic noises while the other just went about their business.

This is Day 4. At this point we took her to the vet as she was acting weak. The vet said she looked perfectly healthy, possibly just weak from three days of being out of commission. She was a little underweight and gave us a supplement. Her comb is still perfectly red, abdomen and crop are fine, and feet are fine.

Later on, at one point Merry got so agitated she just squawked loudly and fell over. We have to help her back to her feet. It appeared as if she passed out.

She returned to standing still and going back and forth from agitated to calm. At one point last night she squawked loudly and fell over again. We had to help her up.

Today her behavior has not changed. She recently "passed out" twice within 10 minutes. Once her neck contorting backwards. She typically just falls to her side. Her poop is now pale yellow and brown.

Her appetite comes and goes and she drinks water off and on.

Any insight is appreciated.

Can you get a video of her?

Is she broody?

Photos of her poop?

Neck contorting is neurological. You can start her on vitamins to see if that helps. 400IU Vitamin E and 1/4 tablet B-Complex. Directly into the beak. Give her some egg to help with the uptake of E.

I agree with@Wyorp Rock, some of her behavior sounds like a broody. And if she's been trying to be broody for a while, they often don't eat well, which could lead to deficiencies which can cause the neurological issues. Definitely get the vitamins in her. I would crate her in a wire crate, in the run, raised up on blocks, bricks or boards so that the air can circulate all around her, no bedding or nesting material at all. That will work on breaking the broodiness at the same time that you are treating and trying to figure out whats going on. It will make it easier for you to get her to give the vitamins daily and help you to monitor her eating and drinking and what droppings are looking like. And she will still be with the flock, but all will be safe.
