Noticed some odd behavior in one of my hens. Been about a month and can't figure it out. She is not laying but does the egg song after sitting on another's nest. Today I was out in the chicken yard and noticed that she and another hen were in the coop together. I heard a ruckus and thought I should investigate. I looked in and this hen was hovering over the hen in the box and pecking and pulling at her I assume trying to get her out. I reached in and grabbed her and took her out of the coop. She roamed around for awhile ruffling her feathers and after a while went back in. The other hen had left the nest, so she went in to lay down in the same box. A minute later another came in and went to a box to lay. This hen got out of her box and acted like she was going to attack the other hen. I took her out again. After a few minutes I allowed her back in and this time she climbed inside the nest box with the other hen. I removed her and she went to another box. She seemed restless so b I put another hens egg under her and she settled right down. This is the same hen who started mo l ting last winter and never seemed to finish. She has no belly or saddle feathers. Is she broody or maybe just frustrated because she is not laying? Wondering is she is not laying for the same reason she did not grow her feathers back? They eat well, oyster shell, grit. A serving of scratch at night. Not sick or egg bound. No mites or anything like that. Any ideas?

That sounds like a broody hen to me. They usually don't lay, and I noticed that when my Black Sex-Link has gone broody, twice, she was molting.

Hmmm, that's strange. My hen is a black sex links also. I thought broody hens sat in the nest all day? She goes back and forth all day. She will go out to free range and then come in and sit awhile. Anything I can do for her?

My Sex-Link didn't sit in the nest all day, either. Most of the time she did, though. Maybe your hen wants for feels like she needs to lay an egg, but can't.

That's what it seems like. What could cause that? Anything I can give nutritionally to help? Was thinking about NutriDrench...heard that is good.

I'd go with the NutriDrench - I heard good things about it, too. Do that, and try to get your hen out of the nest as much possible. If she does happen to be broody, I warn you that it may take a month or more for her to come off it.
