One of my bantams hatched a chick earlier in the spring. She lost it to a preditor about a month ago. We moved all of our new baby chicks to an outdoor coop near the "big" chickens coop. In the last week we have been letting them out to roam during the day. It seems to have been a source of stress for her. She has been acting broody for several days, but no eggs. I have repeatedly checked her for egg bound and can feel nothing. She is eating and drinking like normal. Her comb and waddles are a nice red color. I plan on giving her a water bath tomorrow, just in case.
Has my girl gone crazy? Any suggestions as to what might be going on with her?

She may have gone back into broody mode! I had a silkie who hatched some chicks last year. I ended up selling them at 3 weeks old, 3 weeks later she went broody again. It can happen like that. I never gave her any more eggs though, and she went on sitting on nothing for about 45 days before she quit.

I was so freaked, I remember I posted about it here because I was afraid it would go on forever!

I had a girl go broody with no eggs, so I placed a few from the flock under her. I haven't experienced fighting a broody to make her unbroody. Nothing breaks a broody like letting her hatch a chick or 10.

Thanks y'all! Those were my thoughts as well, but I have never had this happen before. So, needless to say, I was a little freaked out about it. Hopefully she will have a new chick to take care of in about 21 days......
