Had anyone here ever gotten odd tasting eggs? Almost moldy tasting ?
I have free ranging hens that eat layer pellet as well. The eggs we eat are never old, but every once in awhile I will get a really odd tasting one. I feel like it might be becoming more common which is super gross. I was wondering if maybe it could be a particular plant or bug they're eating? I don't think there was really much of a problem with it in the winter. I've done some research and they only mention the common culprits such as; wet eggs, eggs left out, muddy eggs, and old eggs. None of those fit the bill for my eggs.
It's just really annoying since they're fresh healthy eggs and I don't know what to do about it. Any ideas or thoughts would be much appreciated.

Our chickens once got into styrofoam and the eggs started tasting like styrofoam. I ended up throwing out a bunch of eggs until their systems cleared out.

What did it taste like? Is there any other way to explain it than tasting like styrofoam? Because I know sometimes these guys grab some out of the trash every once in awhile. Does it taste horrible and strong?

I can only describe it as tasting like styrofoam. Not super strong but weird and off. Kinda like heating soup in the microwave in a styrofoam bowl, and the soup gets a styrofoam flavor. Made that mistake once in college.

Ok, well thanks so much for your response! Maybe they just have found something really gross to eat! Hopefully I can find what it is lol! 🥴
