Note that brown red has a crow wing pattern--no coloured wing triangle. Black breasted red have a duck wing pattern--ground colour on the wing triangle.

Brown reds have some lacing on the breast; bbr females have a salmon-coloured breast; the males [should] have a solid black breast.
