My Silver Ducckwing rooster has been acting weird. He has been introduced to 4 new hens. They get alone great. He was so excited to have some new companions and the hens were very friendly with him. They've been together for about a month.
I noticed the other day he was in one of the nesting boxes making all kinds of strange noises, almost like a broody hen. He arranges the straw in the nest and talks and talks away. I have never seen a roo do this before. Im wondering if he's just trying to get a place ready for his hens to brood and letting them know he's doing so.

He is actually picking out a nest site for the hens and saying, "Here's a great place to lay your eggs." Very common rooster behavior and the 'strange noises' are part of the procedure.

Been raising chickens for sometime now. Always the large egg layers. I never saw one of the big roos do this. This little game bantam is such fun to watch. I'm sure glad we decided to pick some up. I have a very broody OEGB hen on some eggs. I never heard a hen scream like her. I can reach it an stroke her and she wont bite, but a blood curdling scream would drive any intruder away. Little guys a truly a joy.

Yep, he's just being a gentleman and 'suggesting' a nice place for them to lay. This is actually a blessing, because if you see him doing this outside of the coop, you know that your ladies may be hiding eggs.
