I have 5 hens. Yesterday I got 4 eggs and today (saturday) I only got 1. Well, during the week I'm not home before dark. Today I spent most of the day outside around my chickens and noticed they didn't go into the coop. Do you think it's because I was outside with them and they just didn't want to lay? Is that a dumb question?

i watched my dominique bantam lay its first. they dont really care.

Individual days vary. Look at the average instead.

We average 12 eggs a day, but it has varied from 8 to 15.

I have 23 layers. One day I got 16, the next 8 then today, I got 15. It does vary, especially this time of year.

I was averaging 18+ eggs pretty steady on a daily basis. The last two weeks I am down to anywhere from 6-10 a day. They are on winter break...lol.
