So, I have a bit of an unexpected problem. I have one pair each of turkeys (mixed heritage breed) and muscovy ducks. The turkey pair failed a nest very early in the year, but we assumed that the eggs had simply frozen because of the abnormally cold temperatures in my area, so we allowed her to try again with her current mate. Two weeks into incubation on the second nest, not a single of those eggs showed development, so I discarded them as infertile. During the time that the turkey had been brooding the infertile nest, the female duck had been building her nest. Shortly after I removed the infertile turkey eggs, the turkey hen found the duck nest and decided that it is now hers.
Is it safe to allow her to hatch duck eggs? I don't have a working incubator at the moment and I have no broody ducks or chickens at the moment, so I'm kind of stuck with a wasted nest if I have to take the eggs from the turkey...
