When I candled my eggs night before last, I noticed one has an offset air sac. Instead of being completely at the top of the egg, it runs from the top down one side. I thought I saw movement, so I left it be. Last night I candled a couple to show the kids, and this was one I picked up. I didn't see movement last night, but I did still see veins and such. When I rotated the egg a bit, the air sac didn't move, so I think it's still attached. What are the chances this little one can still survive and hatch with the air sac like that? Anything special I should do to help? I'll be taking them out of the egg cartons on Saturday, so I'll check it again and see how it looks.

I hope someone else gives their opinion, because I only have one isolated incident with this:
Last night, I noticed that one of the pipped eggs had started to zip diagonally. I gave it a few hours, but it wasn't progressing. It also had a "bubbly" sound to its breathing. I had never helped a chick out of the shell before, but I thought I'd try rather than possibly lose the chick.
I was able to get it out in the course of about an hour and was able to see that the yolk had been attached to the side of the shell, rather close to the top.
As soon as I got the shell picked away, the chick tore through the membrane and started chirping away! It was still attached to the side of the shell (I only chipped away at the "pipped side") for a couple minutes, but it was running around the 'bator in about an hour!
Just keep an eye on the egg. If it needs help out - be prepared.
Good Luck!
