I found her! I went out this morning at 6:30 - it was cloudy, so still a little dark. I went walking around the same path I did last night, clucking like a chicken and calling her. She clucked back! She ended up on top of the fence where a huge rhodie branch hangs over. Very clever, I checked that area numerous times last night and of course she wasn't going to make any noise then. How do they do it?
I called her to come down and had some scratch but she flew OVER the fence to the neighbour's yard.
So I had to go into the house and get the big guns (string cheese) that worked! Made a little path of cheese towards the gate and in she went. *whew*
And this was all before coffee!!!
Yes ranchie, she's officially a stinker now.
Thanks for the support everyone, it's very encouraging when you feel lost because of a missing hen!
Yea, what was going on yesterday? I see that a lot of people had missing hens......maybe Spring is in the air and they get distracted or something, silly girls.
I couldn't actually grab Charlene (the stinker), so I had to open up the run and let the others out so she would join them. Of course, Dorothy, the older hen that's been poking Charlene, wouldn't go back in with the others when I got them all together, and I had to boogie to work
So I'm at work - six hens are in the coop/run and Dorothy is out on her own. So I gotta worry about her hide. I think she'll be OK, she's a tough cookie. I put food & water under a bush by the coop. My one DD will keep an eye on her til I get home.
