(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?

I am pretty new to raising chickens, though my family had chickens when I was a kid. So, I remember a lot of things from helping with our chickens way back then. However, I got 7 Rhode Island Reds of my very own back in the spring of 2020.

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?

I have a total of 20 now. 7 hens and 13 baby chicks.

(3) What breeds do you have?

7 Rhode Island Reds, 6 Easter Eggers, 6 Olive Eggers, and 1 random white breed that I am not sure of. Lol.

(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?

I just love the work, in general. And I love how happy my girls are to see me when I come out to the coop. I enjoy just sitting and watching them scratch and cluck and be big goofballs.

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?

Photography, hiking and camping, and restoring our old house.

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.

I’m an engineer and work for a software company. I also photograph weddings part-time with my wife. She is a full-time photographer specializing in boudoir, lifestyle and family portraits. In addition to our chickens, we have 4 cats. We recently moved into an old home on an old farmstead which we are working to restore.

(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?

Every time I went googling for answers to my chicken questions, I ended up on this site getting my questions answered along with finding lots of great advice. So, I decided to join and become a part of this great community.

Welcome here Al ! What a fun journey you are on. Remodeling, photos, and chickens.!
Sounds like chicken math has already hit you!. What a great mix of girls you have.
We love photos by the way. :wee :thumbsup . Have fun with the girls and yes they are goofballs.
Here is a pic of my big girls right after they moved into their new coop. They were so excited they decided to go ahead and roost in the middle of the day 😂. Also attaching a couple of pics of my babies when they were just a day old and exploring the brooder. The chicks are 3 weeks old and soooo much bigger now.
