We are on the same page then - potty training - if I hadnt seen your article I would never have admitted the fact that I do the same lol I'v put their perch across the coop and sheets of newspapers under. Works well The paper goes straight into a large barrel of water with a lid. After a month or two I use the water for veggies.( It does sound kind of strange when you tell the average person that you are potty training your chickens)

I know, my family and friends, think I'm nuts. And, maybe I am, but my chickens use those potties more than the ground. It is easier to clean in designated areas. I figure, if there is three of us in the house with 2 potties, then 6 chickens should have 4-5 potties outdoor and 4-5 in coop! I know that they most likely could never be potty trained, but seems like they like to pooh more in corners on a perch over potties filled with sand. And seems like that little bit of knowledge benefits me, lol! Maybe the corners look like tree trunks with branches or something in the outdoor run. I don't know as long as I don't step in pooh!! It's good to know I'm not the only one that thinks like that, cause I was beginning to think I was crazy.

I love this site. I'm sure there must be some South Africans out there who are incubating for hobby purposes but my computer skills are not great and most of the SA sites I have come across are related to either very large farming or small starters for businessesThe incubator I have eventually chosen is being shipped - should be here soon. In the meantime Im making a brooder. I have been keeping Chickens for about 4 years Never even crossed my mind to try to incubate until this year .
We moved to the country about 10 years ago and still had neat and cutesy on our mind when we built our coop - to match the house lol During my search for incubators I'v seen so many coops that I realize ours was cute but so very impractical , in fact totally wrong. This year I have extended it upward so we can get inside without bending even though its still not 100% right it works. They only get locked in at night and use it for laying
