They just love to play in the mud! With all the rain we've been having here the geese are happy...

Beautiful photo. Do geese dig bigger holes than ducks do, or do they just have a dabble and move on. I wish my ducks would dabble and move on instead of excavating the whole place

Yes the geese will wallow out a place and "bathe" in it.

I was walking across backyard when I saw them eyeing out the wet spot in the flower garden. I took the pic. on my cell phone.

Last evening they had made a big mess along the front of that flower bed.

My hubby says to keep them in barn lot pen but I enjoy them out roaming the yard. Gotta love em!

Ducks eat a lot of bugs, usually earthworms, slugs, and grub worms. That's why they dig such big holes, they're trying to get the goodies

My geese don't dig holes at all from what I can tell, but they have access to the pond all the time so that could be why.

I think mud is one of the fundamental food groups for geese. The others being grass, grain, and Styrofoam.

No they will not get clean. In fact, when it rains they'll make mud holes bigger, they'll actually STOMP up and down to pack the mud down and keep the mud hole Excellent as long as they can.
