I was feeling so confident, and then this.....

Just went down to the coop to check on Broody Hen. She was up, eating, which is unusual as normally she will hide when I come.

The 11 eggs I had under her were now 8 eggs.

Three have either been eaten, or destroyed by something.

The nest STANK.

I took the 'good' eggs out, removed the hay, whipped some fresh stuff in and replaced the other eggs.

Many of them have muck on them now.

She fought her way out of the Broody coop while i was changing out the hay, and ate with the other birds. She came back and is back on the nest again now.

Is it all over? What happened? We are on Day 13, and she is a RIR.

Yes, I am the most impatient person at the best of times, let alone when something like this happens. I was so looking forward to hatching some chickies and now feel quite down about it all.

Lets all cross our fingers and hope that some of those chickies have the will to survive.
