My husband is going to kill me

...but that's why I'm not telling him until he comes home to find them here!! How could he be mad, staring into the face of a chick!?? IMPOSSIBLE! I can't even stand it. I'm so excited. I'm totally not supposed to be doing this...but I can't stop myself. I've got the fever...the FEVER!

I have a great flock now of 5 laying ladies and a rooster...this is my pet flock, they lay wonderfully for me and are very pretty and sweet and none of them need fear the pot. I've got 25 White Dorking chicks coming home this May...they are my "business" birds, they are for meat. But I've been looking at my "pet flock" lately and thinking I want more of them!

SOooooooo....I've been getting VERY antsy for chicks, May seems so far away. So I just got off the phone with a lady who owns a farm down the lane from me and she has awesome Easter Eggers available! ACK! People have been loving her birds and this year she decided to hatch even more to meet the demand and I don't know what came over me...one minute I was just sitting in my house thinking about whatever and then the next thing I know I'm on the phone...and I'm thinking "What am I doing?" - but then, numbers, dialing, a voice "hello!" and before I can even think..another voice, this time, my own! "Yes, I would like some of your Easter Egger chicks...just two or three, to add to my laying flock for their green eggs....do you have anymore for tomorrows pick up date?" - and the sweet glorious words "Yes, yes I do...see you tomorrow"...and then I was off the phone and breathless and I CAN'T BELIEVE THIS IS HAPPENING!

*panting*

I can hardly stand the excitement. I don't know what came over me...my husband is going to be so skeptical...maybe I'll tell him they followed me home from the store!

BREATH! lol, Congrats on your soon to be's! Make sure you give us lots and lots of pics, yah?

And don't worry. My darling ok'd me for a couple chickens, but has been unable to say no to the ever growing amount of chicks I seem to have

He says that they are well taken care of, and if I enjoy it, then it cant be that bad, I think I agree

Ha ha, Miss Annie...my poor husband. I'm a "can't just have one" type of lady I guess. I love our life when it's full of creatures. He said "Sure, we can get a doggie" - I got one and then within months had to get another...now they are best friends, so it worked. Then I said, "Oh, let's start a family" - we had my daughter in June 08..and well, let's just say, my son was just born, November 09!

Same thing with the chickens....we've got 6 and I've been just ITCHING for spring to come so I can get my Dorking chicks. I promised myself I'd hold out until they came...no such luck on the waiting....*sigh*. He knows better than to try and stop me. We've got the space and time for them...so he won't be too mad, just puzzled! My daughter is in LOVE with chickens, she's not yet two years old and is already hooked. Every morning, before the sun is up, she's got her face in mine "cheeekins!" - and we go out in the cold and feed them together. She can hardly stand waiting til the sun is up, she's such a doll face.

flashpoint: No, there is NO help.....but how COULD there be? Anyone who doesn't understand chicken addiction has never known a chicken, that's what I say....and if you don't understand chick addiction...well, then you're just straight up crazy!

LMAO You are so like me!
My latest was the hubby said no more animals, I brought home 2 ducklings yesterday and Monday it was 3 older pullets. Today I am having a playdate with another dog to see if he will get along with my pack. If all goes well I will have a 5th dog.
Hubby will be so mad. But will deal with that later.
