You guys could have warned me about how BAD
th.gif
a rotten egg smelled!! I got a turner today....so when I came home and smelled something as soon as I got inside the door, I assumed it might have been the motor in the turner burning up. WRONG!! An egg exploded and that is by FAR the WORST smell I have EVER smelled in my life!!

So, should my other eggs be okay

? I've cleaned the bator up....how long should I wait before putting the eggs back in? What makes an egg explode anyway? Any way to prevent this from happening again? I don't think I can handle this again and I'm SURE dh can't. If he smells this house right now, he's liable to make me chuck the others

Oh, and one last question....HOW ON EARTH DO I GET THIS SMELL OUT OF MY HOUSE AND MY NOSE??!!

After muddling my way through and burning every candle I own, opening every window in my house, making the power bill skyrocket with use of the AC most of the day with open doors and windows, bleaching everything in sight, and loosing my appetite for days (actually just a little while), I THINK I've managed to clear our house of the smell. DH came inside with a carpenter's mask on last night

Told him it wasn't that bad, said he wasn't taking any chances....eventually took it off and took a whiff....then walked around sniffing like he was trying to catch a scent of it. Crazy thing! Who on earth would want to TRY to smell something like that??!!

oh hunny.... thanks for the warning... I will be sure to run out and get some candles before spring LOL... your poor DH... mine would have done the same thing though and point out that I didnt get it all LOL. I am currious though as to what causes them to explode.. I have heard of this on several threads... just didnt put exploding egg + smell = EWWWWW together

Glad you got the smell out!!!

Oh if DH had even THOUGHT he smelled something in here, he would have hit the roof. I was just so frantic trying to get the smell out....I just knew he'd make me toss the incubating idea if he smelled ANYTHING. After doing all that yesterday, I tripped over our air purifier this morning. Why I didn't think of using it yesterday is beyond me

I think I was just so panicked.

I read somewhere that when an egg is rotten, the gas inside just keeps building up until it explodes. Mine were shipped so it was probably the heat. Not really sure but I'm guessing that's what it was.... I'm just hoping that my others are okay....

I had an egg explode on my last hatch. Yes, GROSS! Luckily, it was in the basement.

All of my other eggs hatched. The only egg I lost was the one that exploded. These were shipped eggs too.

Take care,

Tami
