I have had cow bird on my place for years, they love to come eat when i am bush hoggen.
Here lately there has been one that seems to have taken up residency and my peas chase the darn thing all over but tonight they gave up and let the bird stay and i guess i now have a cow bird in my flock, it acts like it has been around people, weird i know but i can get within 5 feet of it and my dogs try to run it off and it keeps comming back landing among my other birds more and more every day
Mabe if the peas get use to it they will stop chasing them cause thats a pain in the rear having to herd the peas back to the safe zone cause they have been following the wee bird.

It made it's way to where some of the chickens and guineas roost and is spending the night

Too funny! Egrets can't be terribly flighty if they want to hang around cattle. I bet he has taken a shine to your white peas. "ONE OF ME!!"

So adorable. Ah well, the more the merrier in my eyes. Maybe it will start following YOU around, LOL. Very cute.

That is hilarious!!! Wonder if it was a baby? I have white ibis come into my yard frequently and my peafowl herd them out. Can't believe that bird spent the night with you! Must be from all the rain you had.

I named the bird Kritter, it was gone all day yesterday, i was hopping it had left for good but no it was hidding in a tree by one of the ponds causing a stir in the birds.
Funny thing is they don't get upset when it comes to roost.

Is Kritter still showing up to roost with your flock? I think something is up...maybe it was hand-raised? The cowbirds travel here in flocks, I never see one by himself. Are you feeding him? I wouldn't mind a cowbird to stick around and work on the bug population here!

Ya know years ago when i would bush hog there would be 20 to 30 birds in the fields and behind me pecking all the flying bugs, now i am lucky to see just a few, same way at my neighbors.
I don't know if my birds eat all the bugs and they stopped coming or if the population is declining but something is going on with them.

It may have been had reared, I gave a coot to a neighbor that use to raise exotic waterfowl and i read he was back in buisness so it could have been him also i had a fox show up here with a neon pink collar a while back, but who on earth would let a critter like that run around in a farming community i wonder.
I do not feed it it just follows me around when i am cutting the grass course the peas are right there chasing it most of the time so i do not know how it gets anything to eat when they are around.
