Hi,

I was watching your post to see what happened. I'm so glad you found your babies! This can easily happen so don't feel so bad, just be happy to have them again! Good luck!

thanks y'all!

any ideas why they wouldn't go up the popdoor? do chickens just get a bit "off" acting once it gets dark or what?

Yay! See, you're not horrible, just human... and you love your feathered children and took appropriate action and now they're all safe and sound.

Now take a deep breath, have a cuppa (whatever you want!) and have a peaceful night.

Hi,

Yes, they get confused (or "something") when it gets dark. When I had some chicks, I left a dim light on in the coop so they would know to go in but one day, the light blew out. Well, I found them all at the coop's door not knowing what to do. They knew they should go in but the lack of light just threw them off. When I got the light working, they were just fine again.

Chickens are the drama-queens of night-blindness. They truly don't see well in the dark, and let's face it, they're not rocket scientists, so dark + duh = chickens that can't find their spot, get panicky and run for cover! Glad yours found a conveniently empty dog domicile to hole up.

i'm so happy they are safe!! i couldn't remember where this was so i kept searching and searching because i wanted to know if they were all okay. i'm so glad they are!
