I just had to have a Barred Rock, so I got one from the local store, and she is about 2-3weeks old. Most of my chicks are now past 5, with one 4week old BO. I just realized she is a bit young to mix with them. For one I dont have any more starter mash, only grower. Second, she can squeeze through the chain link, and now I gotta address that. If she doesnt adjust by the end of the day I tink I will bring out the old rabbit box and raise her separately until she is older. She seems so scared of the bigger chicks, mostly silkies, but I dont want her off to a bad start....

Just checked on her, and its not good. she is scared of the older chicks, althgough noone is picking on her. She keep squeezing through to the big run where my 3 full grown hens are, and sits by herself. The big girls are ignoring her, which is good I guess, but she looks so lost...

Can you get another one from the feed store? She's gonna need a friend. If she's scared of the bigger chicks, I would take her out and put her in her own brooder. You wouldn't want the hens to suddenly decide to chase her around either!

Yeah go back and get her a buddy, its just sounds so sad please please get her a buddy...

One chicken is a sad chicken, even if there's older chickens around her. You should find her a cute little friend or two.

Well, stores are all closed, maybe tomorrow. She kept escaping the chick pen into the big run, so I will have to tighten up the security. 7 out the 9 chicks I have are silkies, so the chick run is a friendly but crazy (mealworm time) little place.

Finally come sundown they all ran into the "hut" together, so I think tomorrow will be better. The 2nd youngest, a BO, also managed to squeeze through the run divider too. yikes! My dominant BSL pretty much ignores the chicks, but she did peck at the new BR when she thought I was coming over with treats.
