Oh oh! (Warning: very sad...)

Wow, it is hard to express how moving your words are to me. I'm not sure that I deserve such strong compliments, but it is true that it is what I strive to be.

I love dearly each of our chicken, and it is never easy to face the hard decisions. Like I said, we tried to find them new owners. The only answers we got were either "Sorry, I can't, I have to get rid of mine too" or "Great, you can't beat the taste of homegrown chicken". So, like you said, are we going to give them away to someone who will kill them anyway, and maybe not with the care that we would take?

Again, your words touch me deeply and I am now even more happy to have decided to share my grief. In a way, it is another tribute to our dear Che, Frankie and Zeus, and by extension to all the roos that the loving and caring chicken owners of this world have to put down.

I can't help also to be moved by the seriousness and the respect that most backyard (or small barnyard) chicken owners give to pondering this difficult dilemma, especially when I consider the staggering number of pets (mostly cats and dogs) that have to be put down by the SPA every year, in too many cases because of irresponsible pet owners...

And as for my avatar, I will give your compliments to my 17 year-old son, whom I asked to design a nice avatar to go with my username. He told me that he decided to draw a Cuckoo Marans on the couch, in memory of our 5 Cuckoo Marans that sadly all turned out to be roos...

May you find the courage and the peace to deal with this issue. Your words have strengthened me too.
