So far I've only raised hens and, this spring, I got some new breeds to try.

Here's my question: If and when I get a rooster do I have to be concerned about what breed he is? I mean, they talk about heirloom and hybrid breeds, so will I be creating a new breed if the rooster mates with all the hens?

It sounds stupid to ask but I'm curious.

Are there any two breeds that I don't want to mate?

The only reason to be concerned would be if you wanted purebred chicks. If you just want a pleasant backyard flock, let them have at it. Many crossbreds are striking birds.
