It is pretty moist and looks puffy and soft. Not drippy or gooey. And it sort of opens and closes. Does this great description sound like a hen ready for eggs?

Experienced chicken owners please give me some advice!

I have a chicken house, with nesting boxes and she knows where they are. I know they go in sometimes, and I feed them in their pen, but they free range all the time. So going in and out is their choice.

I even started putting a golf ball in her nest box last Oct. My daughter found a ceramic egg and we put that in too. All she did was poop on it! But she has the proper place to lay.

Do some hens just pop out an egg where ever?

I check all her usuall hang outs several times a day. I have found nothing so far.

But we have a ready vent ( I think) and I saw them do their thing, so I should have fertile eggs!!!! Just to find them!!!!

If the vent is making kissy lips, she will lay soon or is laying.
