OK....i got the quails,...now what are they

so as my earlier post said i was getting tux coturnix quails. i got two, the dumb guy didnt know how to sex them

. so i got what I think to be a pair. when i got home, put them in there habitat (which i think is WAY tooo big for two (6ftX3X3ft) they started exploring and i noticed some behaveral differences

QUAIL #1

jumped in food pan and puffed up and brrrr-ed at me like it was mad at me


QUAIL #2

tried to hidde behind the food pan

sooo any idea on gender....i would post pics,......if i knew how

ohh thats not the only reason hes dumb...he gave me guiena pig when i asked for the QUAILS!! and charged my 20 each when the cage said 7 ughhhh

AHA!! this morning i went outside and one quail was making a cricket sound chirp and the other was makeing cluck noises, does that help at all....do the males crow only during breeding season...which would be when ( im in so cal)

I wouldn't exactly call him dumb. Tuxes are hard to sex, especially if they're not in breeding season. Squeeze their cloacas and see if any of them foam. If they foam, they're male. Unfortunately, being in the middle of winter, males probably won't foam either.

I believe the one who "brrr-ed" at you, may be a little GUY. The other, listen for that same sound, if it doesn't, probably a girl. Post pics please!!!!!!! They are so cute! I have 4 now. Two male two femmale, almost laying age. Love love love them!

So I kinda know what u mean. But, I hear parents often like to loan them out for short periods of time!
