Fuego roo has scaly leg mites...at least that's what we think it is. Have been treating with petroleum jelly and seemed like it has been getting a little better, but seems to be moving around; today I noticed his chest between his legs is bare and raw like maybe he's been pecking at it; his legs look like they are starting to crack in a few places. I know you should wash, treat with petroleum jelly, and treat the coop with Sevin dust, but, can we use cage bird lice spray on the cage and on him? Just asking, as we have some handy; will have to go and get some Sevin dust. Also, he was in a bigger coop which is quite large, has a dirt floor and is therefore very hard to treat with anything; if we keep that coop off limits for a while will the lice in there eventually die?
We have moved him into a smaller pen that we can clean and treat. Also, does he have two kinds of mites if he is chewing at his chest? I thought leg mites were confined just to the legs. And how can we treat his body for mites since he has raw patches that would probably sting if we put insecticide on him? How about using DE on his body?
