Ok. Now I’m stumped. Egg yolk alongside soft shelled egg.

Found this inside the coop this morning.

I have three chickens. One has been laying for two weeks, one one week and one I’m not sure if it’s male or female.

the last time I found something funky - it was a hard egg shell that was pecked at - and a sac right next to it. But the egg was a proper egg all in there. The sac was empty, and it was right alongside it.
Now this morning I found this. How? The egg is all intact. The yolk was right next to/attached to some poop.
Please help! Thanks.

new layers - as yours are - sometimes take a while to get the system working nice and smoothly. This looks like a second yolk was released very soon after the first, and basically travelled through the reproductive tract hot on the heals of the first, and without getting the albumin and shell added. It caught up with the first when it was being laid, and came out right after.

I wouldn't worry about any of these sorts of glitches; most resolve themselves without intervention.
