Okay to add grower feed to layer feed for extra protein?

Hi, I've been reading on this forum various suggestions for adding protein for the chickens when they are molting or just when it's cold (as it seems to be everywhere right now.) I was wondering if it's okay to mix some starter/grower feed in with the layer feed. Does anyone do this? Thanks.

Sure, as long as it is not medicated, you don't want that in your eggs. And you will need to be sure they have constant access to oyster shell to supplement their calcium needs. BTW they do not need extra protein for cold--they can actually use slightly less % protein as their calorie needs are higher.
