My mother in law has buckets of pinto beans stored in her basement for food storage. She wants to get rid of them. Is there any way I can use these to feed my chickens? I can't cook them all, but I could certainly soak them. Has anyone ever tried simply soaking beans and giving them to chickens? Or do they absolutely need to be cooked as well?

Thanks

Raw and/or undercooked beans are not a great idea for birds or people. They contain a couple different toxins.
Plus it is usually posted that chickens won't eat them raw.

ANF’s are lectins, also called hemagglutins. These are substances that react with the
intestinal mucosa, causing severe intestinal damage, impaired nutrient absorption, and
poor growth. Toxicity and lectin content of various types of legume seeds is shown in
Table 2. Cull beans should be subjected to moist heat to inactivate lectins, before use as
poultry feed.
