Okay to wrap eggs in damp towel?

My homemade bater is having a hard time keeping up the humidity and the chicks are due to hatch any moment. Can I place a damp towel under them to increase the humidity? I have SIX sponges, TWO bowls AND the bottom of the tank covered in water! Argh....

NOT touching the eggs! They will wick up the moisture and likely drown in the shell.
