I am terribly sorry to hear that. I know that you did everything in your power to help him. He really is in a better place even though your heart wishes he was here with you.

Ohhh, I am so sorry. I know how you must be feeling but please know that everyone here supports you and no one blames you for a thing. You did everything in your power to help Ol' Red and you tried your very best. That's all anybody can ask so don't beat yourself up. I have also sent birds over the rainbow bridge by trying to help them and it's a terrible feeling of guilt that is hard to get over. But you will and you MUST because it wasn't your fault. It's funny how somebody will post about a sick bird and everybody starts getting involved and gets to feeling they actually know you and the bird. That's what happened with Ol' Red. I hope you will get more chickens and come back. You have made a lot of friends here.

Sabrina,
I'm sorry to hear about Ol' Red. I think you did a terrific job of caring for him... and I'm sorry you weren't successful. This all had to do with the coyotes' attack, not your nursing skills.

Sorry for your loss.

For future reference, an animal bite is one of the things that warrant an antibiotic.

Green poo is bile, and an indication that he is not eating, as you saw.

You did the best you could and that is that. Chances are after the shock wore off, he had internal injuries that nobody could do anything about, no matter how much time or money was spent. There is no fixing an internal injury you can't see or even know where to look. You know he died in loving hands and that is the important part.
